I Need Some "Mural" Support

Hardy har har!  I just crack myself up sometimes!  I have a new mural project coming up and I want to bounce some ideas off of you, my cyber friends.  This will be one of the few projects that I will be doing in an adult-oriented setting.  Not my forte.  If you paint like a child, you should paint for children.  That has been my business model so far, but this time I've been invited to sit at the grown-up table and I'm feeling a little intimidated.  I'm going to show you some of my ideas and I want some honest feedback.  A few things to know in advance:
  1. This wall is probably about 12 feet tall and 60-ish feet long.
  2. I don't do faux finishes.  I hate them.
  3. For each of these ideas I am suggesting using ONE color in a flat finish for the background and THE SAME COLOR in a gloss finish for the graphic design.  So, while they may be busy-looking on paper, they would actually be much more subtle in real life.
  4. I cry at the drop of a hat lately.  I'm just sayin'.  Be kind with your honesty.
Here they are:

(That last option has all the letters for the name of the business in each 4 foot square -- not just random letters.).  I'm not going to tell you which one is my favorite, but I'd love to hear which one is yours.  Think of it as a game!  Yeah, that's it.  A game.  I'll keep telling myself that.

  1. I always have an opinion, but it is not informed, or anything, so take it with a grain of salt.

I like the letters one. I am a words/letter kind of person, so typography stuff like that gets me.

I also like the second and third basket-weave ones. I guess seeing the setting might help me decide on which scale to choose--will there be furniture up against the wall, is the room busy etc.

But I really like those, so I might let the nature of the business determine whether to go more language or more graphics.

  2. I like 1, 4, and 5. The letters one is really cool, but could get a little busy in the wrong setting. I think it is very unique and hip though! Its not something I've seen before. Other than that, the graphics don't really have much to lend in the unique factor. Its just going to be a matter of personal preference which one people like better... You're awesome bytheway. Can't wait to see the finished project!!

  3. I am always the odd man out...
I LOVE the diamonds! It's my fav. I also really like the words - but it depends on where you are painting them (what kind of place).
I don't dislike any of them - they are all super chic. But my favorite is still the diamonds (keep in mind my obsession with diamond jewerly - so maybe that is just a by product of that addiction). I really love the litte + throughout. I would love that in my bathroom.... hmmmmmmm I smell another project blooming! Thanks for the inspiration :)

  4. My favorite is 1 with 4 and 5 close behind.

    Good luck!

  5. I like 3 and 5 best... In that order :-)And I like 2 better than 1 because it has more defined squares...

  6. Thanks guys!! I like 5 the best -- I hope it's the one they choose. I also liked 1 until I realized it looks like it says IF all over the place. Whatever. I can't wait to see which one the client likes. I'm still up for more opinions so don't let my comment discourage you further commenters!

  7. I love the diamonds one best. :)

  8. The diamonds are a very close second to the lettering for me. I secretly hope they pick that one because it would be the easiest to paint . . .

  9. I love the diamonds. Not knowing what else will be going on, that's the one I vote for.

  10. They are all awesome. I would go with the letters. I think it's the most custom (specific to the customer) - and if you are going to hire a custom muralist, might was well go for it. I'm sure it will look awesome with the subtle of the glossy and flat look. Such a cool idea! The diamonds is also my second favorite. Maybe somewhere deep down I do have some taste... if they happen to the same picks as you, I must have some somewhere DEEP down.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I try to respond to every one, even if it takes me a little while!
