Super Easy Book Page Art

Today I've got another super-easy art project I made for the eclectic gallery wall of in my kids' bathroom.  I promise at some point I'll show you the whole thing put together.  It's just taking longer than I had expected!

I've made some easy art by printing on the pages of old books in the past and I love the way they look.  I just needed something a little more youthful {not child-ish -- oh, no} for my kids' bathroom.  I found this really cool vintage image of a boy looking at the stars and doctored it up in Gimp to fit my book page.

Printing on the page of an old book is really simple.  Once you have an image chosen, you need to tear a page out of book.  You can be as careful or as careless as you choose, depending on the look you want for your project.  Next, measure your book page.

You're going to go into your word processing program and set the page dimensions to match those of your book page.  Mine was 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/8 inches.  In Microsoft Word, click on File and then Page Setup.  In the window that opens up, I changed all the margins to .5.  Then I clicked on the Paper Size tab in that box, chose Custom Size in the drop down menu, and entered my dimensions.

Click OK when everything is just right.

To add your picture, Click on Insert up at the top of your page.  Choose Picture in the drop down menu, and then choose From File.  Find the image you want to use, then click Insert.

Adjust the size if needed by selecting your image and clicking and dragging the corners.

All that's left to do at this point is insert your book page into your printer and print it out.  It couldn't be any easier!!  Frame your printed picture any way you like.  Since mine is going into a bathroom, I wanted to protect it a little bit, but it didn't need anything fancy.  I just Mod Podged it onto a piece of cool scrapbook paper, cut the paper to fit my 8x10 frame, and popped it in there.

I liked the look of the book print showing through the negative space of the image.

You could also print it out onto plain paper, decorative scrapbook paper, or even a piece of newsprint cut to size.  Your options are only limited by your imagination!  The best part?  It was basically free since I had everything in my craft closet.  Love that.

Come back soon to see the "Just Because" postcards I made.  Thanks for stopping by, friends!

  7. Hey there!

This is so cool! And I've seen that picture of the boy looking up at the stars all over the internet but I can't find out where it's from...is it out of a book? If you know and could tell me, I'd really appreciate it—thanks much!

  8. Hi there, great work. Got a question - are you using an inkjet or laser printer? And does it matter which? Thanks.

    1. I use an inkjet printer, but it really doesn't matter. Both would work!
