{31 Days to a Brand New Room}
Day 18: Easy Printable Art

If you're joining us for the first time today, welcome!  This is day 17 of a 31-day series about how to give a room in your home a brand new look, from top to bottom, completely DIY.

So far we've done a little bit of chalk art on the walls of this room, but I think it needs a little bit of framed artwork, too. Sydney is a generally positive, bubbly kid {which is kind-of rare for her age, I guess -- we are so blessed!} so I thought it would be fun to surround her with "positive affirmations" in her bedroom.

Sidenote:  Who grew up watching Saturday Night Live in the late 80's/early 90's?  Remember Stuart Smalley?

 I have to laugh when I think of  that.  I chose to use a less-silly quote from Roald Dahl for Sis's room, however.

I did white-on-white and used drop shadows to make the lettering stand out.  It's a little bit different look and I LOVE the way it turned out!!  I had it printed as an 11X14 photo print at Costco and framed it in a white frame so it would really pop on the navy blue walls in this room.  I wanted to give it just a little bit more . . .oomph, maybe . . . so I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic to fill in the larger words on the print.

See how the bottle has that really fine tip?  I used that like a pen and filled in the letters.  {It doesn't have to be perfect!}  Dimensional magic is kind of like clear glue that holds it shape as it dries, giving your project a 3-dimensional feel.  Mine has a little bit of iridescent glitter in it -- there are different varieties you can find at most craft stores.  I really like the way it makes those key words in the quote catch the light and stand out more.

I realized after I had it printed {of course} that I had forgotten to add the attribution at the bottom of the quote.  I fixed it on the one that you can download above, but I need to have a new print made for this room.  {Gosh darn it!} If you would like to use this printable art work for your personal, non-commercial use, I would be thrilled.  Simply click on the quote image, then right click and save it to your computer.  Easy cheesy.

The other print in that grouping is one I found on etsy via Pinterest.  It says, "Remember this, that very little is needed to make a happy life."  If I could teach my children one thing in life, it would be that.  It seemed only fitting to hang that up in there, too.  I don't know how many times I've said this {maybe every day so far?}but I think this artwork may be my favorite thing in the room.  The room is starting to feel "finished" now that there are some frames on the wall!

I hope you'll join me tomorrow for another budget friendly art piece in this room, a really cool new craft book on the market, and a spider web pillow I made for Halloween. {There's gonna' be a giveaway since it's my birthday!!} Big day!  See you then . . .

  1. It's amazing what a little 3D puff-paint can do to an already adorable print. LOVE IT!

  2. Ha! Stuart Smalley. Can't tell you how much we quoted him at girls camp. And the Pat imitations . . . ah, memories. I love the room. Love, LOVE it. I wish we lived closer. And I wish I could afford to hire you as my decorator:) We've been here a year and none of my rooms are what you would call decorated. Oh, well. Maybe when the crazy 18 month old is a little older. And happy birthday tomorrow!
