I am always a little bit surprised to see which of my posts really hit with you guys and which ones kind of fizzle. My iPhone wallet has been such a HUGE hit and I am thrilled that many of you have found it helpful. The cute coral and navy one I originally made was looking a little dingy because I literally take it everywhere I go. I could have just spot-cleaned it, but the snap was a little bulky and they're soooo easy to make, I decided to make a new one and tweak things a little bit.
Aside from adding the adorbs ruffle on the front, this version has an elastic closure that is a whole lot slicker than the snap. I LOVE IT!! I have also added a chipboard insert that makes it sturdier and better protects the phone inside. It's just all around better, in my humble opinion.
I have worked and worked to perfect three versions of the iPhone pattern and find an easier way to make them available to y'all. I know it has frustrated many who have been unable to download the original pattern from my Google Drive. For some reason it has only been working for about half of the people who try to download it and that is just not good enough. For those reasons, I am offering this pattern on Craftsy for the teensy price of $1. For that price, you will get the pattern pieces for ALL THREE VERSIONS of the iPhone wallet along with detailed sewing instruction complete with pictures, and I will get to take my kiddos to Taco Bell to make up for all the time mom has spent on the computer putting this all together. I know that is going to irk a few of you, but I hope you'll understand.
Ok. Let's go!
Ruffled iPhone Wallet Tutorial
Supplies:
1/4 yard of main fabric
1 strip of coordinating fabric 4" wide by 10"long for ruffle {or just use your main fabric again}
6" piece of 1/4" elastic
small piece of chipboard or thin cardboard
duct tape
exacto knife
inexpensive plastic case that fits your phone
needle& thread
E6000 craft glue
STEP 1: Print out pattern pieces and cut out your fabric. My pattern is sized to fit an iPhone 4, but you could adjust it to fit other sizes. For this wallet you will NOT need to cut out the flap piece.
If you don't stitch across the bottom edge, your debit card will fall too low when you place it in the pocket. The stitching ensures that your cards will always be easily accessible.
I chose to top stitch across all these folds this time. It's not necessary, but I liked the way it looked and it holds my cards a little more securely. Here's a photo:
This gives it a nice, finished look. Here is an actual photo of what it will look like from the outside of the wallet:
I
used E6000 glue to attach my inexpensive plastic case to the inside of
my wallet. This is the kind of hard plastic case that your phone snaps
into and stays put. The chipboard insert we added before sewing the cover shut in step nine ensures the glue will not bleed through your fabric.
Once the glue dries {several hours later -- I waited overnight} you can pop your phone in place and load it up. When the phone is not in use, simply flip the elastic around to the back to keep the whole thing closed.
SO! SO! SO! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love this project. Made one for my LG, but I didn't get a couple of things right. Should have added more sewing edge, it came out a bit too tight. And I placed the ruffle on the wrong side-covered the camera hole (doh!). Will try it again and get it right next time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Definitely try again! I made three of the original iPhone wallets before I finally got the hang of it and really got it working well. Best of luck with it!
