Awesome {& Inexpensive!} Gifts for Guys

I'm always super jealous of you people out there who get your Christmas shopping done early.  Like, before-Thanksgiving early.  Like, I-can-actually-enjoy-December early.  You people really have things figured out.  I am not one of your elite club.  For years my husband worked for a company that handed out Christmas bonuses on December 7th.  Being the poor, young parents we were at the time, no Christmas shopping got done before that day.  Every year we hired a babysitter and Brent and I made a day of it -- shopping for everything all at once, lunch at our favorite restaurant, maybe a movie to celebrate when we were finished.  It has kind of become our tradition, even though it has been many years since we received a bonus, and there's really no reason to wait.  If you still have shopping to do, I have compiled a list of a few my favorite fun & inexpensive gifts -- today for the guys, tomorrow for the gals.

#1.  The Pick Punch from Uncommon Goods.  $25

Why I love it?  It's just plain cool.  Especially if you have a musician on your Christmas list.  Old gift cards and expired credit cards take on a whole new life with this little punch.  Plus, Uncommon Goods is a really great company.  They feature unique designs and handcrafted products, they pay their employees a more-than-fair wage, and they support creative individuals right here in the USA.  Why would you not support a company like that?!  They sent me this Pick Punch to try out and my kids went nuts, making picks out of everything.  You might worry that it would be difficult to punch through thick plastic, but it cuts through it like butta'.  Pretty sweet for the price!

For more ideas like this, check out Uncommon Goods Christmas Gift Ideas list.  I want soooo many of their cool products. Here are a couple more that my boys thought were awesome:  The Aquafarm and Kinetic Sand.

#2. Giant Peanut Butter Cups.  $10

Why I love it?  Um, hello.  1 pound of chocolate and peanut butter goodness.  Enough said.

You can find them online or, likely, at your local convenience store.  {I found them at Circle K and Dollar General.}  What kid wouldn't freak out if they got one of these in their stocking?  They also have a 1 lb. Snickers bar.  Mmmmmm......

#3.  DIY Character Hoodies.  About $15

Why I love them?  I think hand-made gifts are the coolest.  Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I much prefer getting something made by someone I love.  They can be completely customized for the recipient.  Here's the tutorial for the Monster hoodies, but using this basic concept you could create just about any character or style.  I'm thinking super heroes like the Flash {logo on the chest of a red hoodie, yellow lightning bolts on the hood} or batman {yellow logo and black bat ears on a black hoodie}, or a Minecraft Creeper face in green on a black hoodie.  Super, duper fun.

#4.  Duct Tape Wallets.  Less than $5

Why I love them?  Again, a handmade gift -- see #3. You'll get two or three wallets out of each roll of duct tape {beat that price!} and you can make them in almost any style and color imaginable -- favorite sports teams, cute prints, solids, you name it.  This is my favorite video tutorial.  Three years ago my son made duct tape wallets like it was his job.  My husband STILL carries the plain black one he got then and it's in pretty good shape, believe it or not.  Your kids can make them as gifts for all their friends without breaking the bank.

#5.  Tee Shirt Pillowcases.  Free {or really, really cheap.}

Why I love them?  I love the old adage, "Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, or do without."  If your husband has some old tee shirts he can bear to part with {maybe he'll be getting some new ones under the Christmas tree . . . } you can whip these up in an afternoon for no money.  Even if you have to buy the shirts, just go to Goodwill or your local thrift shop and pick a few up for a couple of bucks.  They're nice and soft and cozy to sleep on and look super cool.  Here's how you make them.

#6.  Comic Book Smart Phone Cases. $10

Why I love them?  They're just super cool.  I know not every guy is into comic books, but the majority of guys I know, older and younger, are.  Very much.  These would be a huge hit with all of them.  Plus, I love the retro style.  Find this and many others here.

#7.  The Dangerous Book for Boys.  $10

Why I love it?  It gets my boys' creative juices flowing.  The tradition in our home is that the kids get 4 gifts for Christmas -- something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read.  We got this book for our boys one year {and the girly version for our daughter} and it was the hit of Christmas.  My boys read it voraciously and wanted to try every single thing inside, from sending secret messages written in milk to each other to building a desk for their bedroom.  It's exactly the kind of "trouble" boys should be getting into while they're young.

#8.  Cool Watches.  About $5

Why I love them?  OK, for $5 you're sure to get what you pay for, but my guys are crazy for watches.  For years after we were married my husband bought me a watch for every gift-giving occasion, never realizing that I don't wear watches.  He loves them and he was just sure I would love them, too.  He and my boys especially LOVE these slick little techy/gimmicky watches.  And it's OK if they break down after 3-4 months because then you can get a newer, better, more gimmicky one.  Of course I think a watch that looks like a car's speedometer {and that makes you do math to figure out the date and time} is ridiculous, but the men in my life and all their friends, apparently, think it's the coolest.  For $5 I am willing to indulge them. Both available on Amazon.com.

#9. Personalized Steins.  Less than $10

Why I love them?  We are not beer drinkers around here, but my guys love these giant glasses filled with frosty cold root beer or Dr. Pepper.  You can buy these at World Market and  I almost always see them at Goodwill when I'm out thrifting, but lately I have seen them at the dollar store, too.  Score!  Buy a plain glass stein and personalize it with paint pens made for non-porous surfaces or etching cream.  I'm thinking a monogram or sports team logo . . .  Wrap it up with a 6 pack of IBC root beer and it's sure to be a hit.

#10.  The Odd Job Multi-Tool.  $15

10 Fun, Inexpensive Gift Ideas for Guys at my3monsters.com

Why I love it?  Because I plan to steal it.  How often do you dig out a hammer for a project?  Then you need a screwdriver, too, so you have to go back out to the garage?  Then you have a phillips instead of a flat head so you have to go out again?  It's infuriating!!!  I so want one of these.  I mean, I so want my husband to have one of these.  Buy it here.

So, there you have it -- 10 of my favorite guy gift ideas. What would you add to the list?  I 'm always looking to stockpile ideas for later!
