Hi guys! Have you ever been to Dollar General? Can you believe that I haven't taken my bargain-loving self there until now?! That's why I was really excited when they challenged me to create a holiday tablescape from Dollar General Holiday décor items. Uh . . . let me think about that for, like, zero seconds . . . Challenge Accepted!
I immediately got into holiday decorating mode and decided I wanted to create a hot chocolate bar in our dining room this year. I mean, my kids are always making hot chocolate and leaving the fixings out anyway. Why not make it look like I meant for that to happen? This would also be fun if you were having a carolling party, too. Everyone could come back to the house and warm up with a mug of hot chocolate and a cookie {or two!}.
The first thing I saw when I entered the store were these adorable reindeer mugs and it was love at first sight.
They have other styles, but I wanted all of mine to match. Because I'm a little nuts like that. It's fiiine. These mugs came filled with candy for . . . . .
$1.00!!!!! Can you believe that? While I was at Dollar General, I picked up all the fixin's for hot chocolate -- cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, gingerbread marshmallows, peppermint sticks, and cinnamon -- plus cute glass containers and shakers to hold them.
The only thing I added from my own kitchen were the metal scoopers. Everything else you see came from my shopping trip. I spent a good long time in the store looking at all of the ornaments on display before settling on these glittery metal trees to add some sparkle to my hot chocolate bar:
They add just the little extra oomph that this tablescape was lacking! A few of them got strung on a piece of twill tape and hung from the top of the chalkboard. The rest were nestled in and around the goodies on the table. I love the warm, cozy feeling it gives our living space -- like the whole world is welcome to come have a sip of cocoa any time, day or night.
{You really are welcome. I can't guarantee the house will be clean or that I will not be in pajamas at 2 in the afternoon, but the hot chocolate will be free-flowing, so stop on by!} So, if you want to create your own hot chocolate bar, take a trip to Dollar General and pick up:
mugs
coordinating napkins
glass jars of varying shapes and sizes {my cocoa container is actually a class hurricane jar for a candle -- be creative!}
a few sparkly ornaments
cocoa mix, marshmallows and other yummy toppings
You can add a cozy holiday feeling to your home for very little money! That's what I love about places like Dollar General -- you can try something new and a little bit different without making a huge investment in it. I'll tell you, my kids are already calling this the best Christmas ever. Mom of the Year, right here, folks. Woot! Woot!
How cute! I love the hot chocolate bar idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks! My kids are having fun with it, for sure.
