Easy Glitter Stenciled Vase with {NEW} Mod Podge Rocks Stencils

I've been using Mod Podge in my craft projects for almost as long as I can remember. There are soooooo many things you can do with it. I love reading Mod Podge Rocks! and seeing all the cool projects people come up with, so when I was contacted by Amy Anderson {the genius behind Mod Podge Rocks!} about trying out a new product she had created for Plaid Crafts, I jumped at the chance!!! I'm not being compensated in any way -- I was just asked to make a project and let y'all know what I REALLY think about it. Sounds good to me!

These new Mod Podge Rocks stencils are so much fun. I used mine to give a boring old florist's vase sitting in the back of my cupboard a major dose of glitz.

You will need:

Mod Podge Rocks stencils {available at your local Michael's craft store}
Mod Podge
foam brush or these handy spouncers
glitter
a surface to stencil on

Begin by cleaning the surface you will be stenciling really well and making sure it is completely dry.  I chose to use an old florist's vase I had on hand, but you can pick up similar ones for next to nothing at thrift stores.  Imagine how fun it would be to get a bunch of them in different shapes and sizes and unify them with matching stencils for a wedding reception or party!

Gently peel the stencil off of its backing and position it on your clean, dry surface.  These stencils have a sticky back so they stay in place while you're working.  {The stickiness should last through about 20 repositionings.} Use the foam brush or spouncer to get a nice even coat of Mod Podge all over the stencil.  You could use masking tape to protect the edges or just be really careful like I did.

Immediately remove the stencil and place it back on its backing.  You'll be left with a pretty design made out of the sticky Mod Podge.  Clean the stencil in between uses.

Sprinkle on the glitter, making sure to cover all the wet glue evenly.  Shake the excess glitter off onto a sheet of paper so you can use it again.  Allow it to dry completely before using a soft brush or rag to remove all traces of extra glitter from the glass.  If you're using a square like I did, repeat the process for all 4 sides of the container.  Before long you'll be left with a pretty sparkly vase like this:

You could go back and add a layer of Mod Podge on top of the glitter to seal it, but since this vase will not get heavy use and will only be hand washed I felt pretty good about leaving it as-is.  I tied a turquoise ribbon around the center {to hide a teeny tiny mistake or two} and filled it up with bright, pretty tulips.  It's the perfect pick-me-up in the middle of this crazy weather many of you are experiencing!

I think this would be a fun "just because" gift for a friend or a neighbor to brighten up their day, too.  It costs so little and makes a bunch of grocery store tulips look like a million bucks!  I think my stenciling technique could use some work, however.  I got a bit impatient and smeared the design slightly in a couple of spots, but it was easily saved with a little ribbon.  {My husband says no one would have noticed it even without the ribbon, but I am a perfectionist.}  I had a lot of fun working with these Mod Podge Rocks stencils. In fact, I sparkled like a disco ball for  couple of days afterward.  I hope my crafty friends out there will head out to Michael's and pick up some of these stencils.  I have my eye on the faux bois one for another project . . .

Have a great day!

Amy
