Yo, Yo, Yo! Check My New Pillow Cover, Bro!

I'm so "street", right?  After making my Yo Yo Rosette Wreath, I became a little bit obsessed with yo yos.  I just think they're really pretty and cheerful-looking so I started brainstorming what else to do with fabric yo yos.  I remembered pinning this pillow cover a while back :

Bingo!  I have had a pillow in my living room in need of a new cover for quite some time and so a project was born.  I cut out fabric circles from all my favorite fabrics and stitched up my yo yos as I watched General Conference this weekend.  My pillow is a giant floor pillow so I needed nine rows by nine rows, or 81 yo yos to cover the front.

Once I had all the yo yos sewn up, I attached some of my vintage-y buttons and jewels to the centers and laid them out until I had an arrangement I liked.  Yesterday, I turned on a movie and tacked all EIGHTY-ONE of those yo yo's together by hand.

When you're done you'll have a big "sheet" of yo yos to attach to the front of your pillow cover.  You could sew up a pillow cover anyway you choose or buy a pre-made cover.  You could even attach the yo yos directly to the front of your pillow if your happy with the cover that's already on it.  I sewed up a big zippered cover for my pillow out of white denim so it would be really durable and it could be removed for washing.

All that's left to do at this point is tack your sheet of yo yos onto the front of the cover around all the edges and at several points throughout the center to hold it all in place.

I'll be honest, last night when I was done working on it I HATED it.  It felt too busy and too pink to go in our home.  I didn't even attach the sheet of yo yos to the cover because I didn't want to waste any more time on a project fail.  I decided to withhold judgement until morning when I could see it in "real" light and now I think I like it.  A lot.  It might be a little more pink than my boys like, but I love the vintage feeling it has.

I have big plans to {eventually}paint the entire interior of my house white and add in lots of bright, cheerful accents with fabric and painted furniture.  This pillow is step number one in that direction.  It really does make me smile when I look at it now.  No doubt our dog will adopt this as "her" pillow, as she does every new pillow I make. She's not nearly as picky as the rest of us.

What do you think?  Do you love yo yos as much as I do or are they a big no no in your house?  I would love to know!  {For the record, I'm a yo and my husband is a no in that great debate.}
