Back to School with LLZ by LockerLookz

It's getting to be that time of year again . . . Back to School!! Did you love it or hate it as a kid?  To this day I LOVE new school supplies. Fresh pens, folders and binders?  Yes, please.  And, to be perfectly honest, I was a little bit nerdy.  I genuinely liked learning.  The only drawback was that we moved around a lot -- like, A LOT -- so it felt like I was always the new kid who didn't know where to go or what to do.  Plus, I was pretty shy and also {remember} nerdy, so that was a struggle.  As a mom, I try to focus on the positive and make back-to-school shopping a fun treat for my three kiddos.  The older they get, though, the harder they are to impress.  Gone are the days when a new box of crayons could elicit a happy dance.  My daughter, a JUNIOR this year, has hit her "senior slump" about a year and a half early.  Thankfully, we discovered LLZ by LockerLookz!

My Outdoor Chalkboard Project on Craftaholics Anonymous Today

Outdoor Chalkboard project for Craftaholics Anonymous® by /.
Hi guys!  Today I'm sharing another project over at Craftaholics Anonymous®.  This month I made this BIG outdoor chalkboard to cover up one of the spots I have always hated about my little fixer-upper house -- the sidelight window next to the front door.  It's made out of 1x3 pine boards and Hardiebacker cement board so it will withstand just about any weather that may come our way.  Our porch feels so much more cheerful and welcoming with this decorative touch, PLUS sometimes it's really fun to work with power tools!  Never fear -- this is still a really easy project that just about anyone can make.  Head on over and check it out!

Have a great day!

Old Fashioned Butterscotch Ice Cream

Old Fashioned Butterscotch Ice Cream recipe at /
Hello, friends!  One of my favorite things about summer is ice cream.  I can't seem to get enough of it -- especially the homemade variety.  One of the things I loved about visiting my grandparents as a child was helping grandpa make raspberry ice cream with the raspberries we picked in the garden.  It was heavenly.  So, when I spotted an old fashioned ice cream maker at the thrift store a while back I HAD to buy it.  I don't have a raspberry patch in my yard, but there was a recipe for Old Fashioned Butterscotch Ice Cream in the instruction manual of my old school ice cream maker that is equally delicious!

Take Back Vanilla

#TakeBackVanilla with these creamy rootbeer drinks at /
Hi guys!  In my humble opinion, there is not much in life that isn't vastly improved with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of it.  {You can take that advice to the bank, my friends.} Maybe it's because I'm vanilla.  My little family is vanilla through and through.  I have been happily married to my first {and only} love for the past 18 years.  We have 3 great kids and a dog.  We live in a little house on a quiet street in the suburbs.  We're vanilla and I love it!

Vintage Soda Storage Crate tutorial by / for Reasons to Skip the Housework
Hi guys!  Today I'm hanging out over at Reasons to Skip the Housework, where Melanie is letting me share my tutorial for these really fun Vintage Soda Storage Crates.  They cost less than $6 each and only took about 30 minutes to put together.  I think they will be the perfect storage solution for my boys' vintage industrial style bedroom.  Head on over for the full tutorial.

Hope you're having a great summer!

Make a birdfeeder out of an old chandelier and thrifted tea cups! Tutorial at /
Hi guys! I am thrilled about the way my little porch update has been coming together.  You've seen my new pillows, and I'll be sharing a few more fun projects throughout the summer.  Today I am excited to show you my new bird feeder made out of an old pendant light fixture and some cool tea cups I picked up thrifting.  Krazy Glue is the magical stuff that made this whole project possible.  No doubt you've seen the commercials over the years -- the man bungee jumping or the construction worker hanging from his hard hat -- but if you're like me, you were the tiniest bit skeptical.  Well, I'm a believer now!

The Handmade Gift Exchange at Craftaholics Anonymous®

We've been having fun so far this summer.  Last night, on a whim, we sent our daughter off to Utah indefinitely with a friend of ours.  Dylan leaves Monday for Scout Camp and then Riley leaves the Monday after that for his high-adventure scout trip.  Tons of fun -- for the kiddos.  Mom is getting a little exhausted.  I've had my own kind of fun this summer, though.  I took part in the Handmade Gift Exchange over at Craftaholics Anonymous for the first time this year.  Have you heard of it?  Tons of crafty people sign up to participate, then are paired up at random.  You make a gift to send to your partner and they make one for you in return.  It sounded like a super fun idea -- I like to give {and receive} gifts!

Decorative Tea Towels

Hi guys!  I originally shared this project on Craftaholics Anonymous®.  I am really excited to share my “make it in an afternoon” tea towels again here today.  Those are my favorite kinds of projects, really.  Not too much of a commitment and almost -instant gratification.  Win-win!  I found some fabric that I loved at Hobby Lobby a while back, but it wasn’t a perfect match for the color scheme I have going on in my open floor plan living area right now.  I figured I could get away with using it as a bright punch of color on some funky tea towels in my kitchen.  Guess what . . . I LOVE it!!

Decorative Embroidered Tea Towels at my3monsters,com
I don’t do a ton of embroidery {don’t look too close at the photos, mmkay?}, but I find it's a great excuse to catch up on my Netflix while I'm "working".  I settled in on the couch one Friday evening and knocked this set of two towels out in a couple hours.  Talk about killing two birds with one stone!  You can use my pattern or freehand your own to make a fun decorative accent for your kitchen.
