Awesome {& Inexpensive!} Gift Ideas for Gals

Hi, friends!  Yesterday I shared some of my gift ideas for guys.  Today it's time for the gals!  Here are a few of the things that we are making and gifting, or that I would love to receive!!

1. Merry KISSmas Lip Scrub.  About $2

Why I love it?  Every girl wants to have super-soft, kissable lips, right?!  Maybe it's because we live in the desert, but my lips is DRY, yo!  Sometimes lip balm just doesn't do the trick.  This little concoction gets rid of all the dry, chapped lip skin so the balm can really sink in.  I whipped it up in my kitchen, mostly out of stuff I already had in my pantry, and packaged it in cute little Altoid Minis tins with custom labels.

Here's how you do it:  Mix 2 Tbsp. sugar with 1 Tbsp. honey in a small bowl.  Add 1 tsp. olive oil and mix well.  For extra hydration, mix in 1 tsp. Vaseline.  You can add food coloring if you want.  I had a packet of Bubblegum flavoring {the kind that you stir into canned frosting to flavor it}, so I stirred a little of that in to make it all pink and delicious smelling.  To use the scrub, rub a finger-full into your lips and wash off with warm water.  Follow with a good layer of lip balm to protect the freshly exposed skin.

Scoop it into your empty Altoids Minis tin, and affix the fun label, which you can download and print below.  Voila!  Easy gift -- perfect for your favorite babysitter or your daughter's friends.

2.  Blinged Out Gloves.  About $1

Why I love them?  For the same reasons I talked about yesterday, I adore home made gifts.  They're usually budget-friendly and can be customized perfectly for the recipient.  These little gloves can be found in just about any dollar store or the Dollar spot at Target.  Here's a fun tutorial from Little Miss Momma to get you started.

3.  DIY Character Hoodies.  About $15

Why I love these?  For all the reasons I gave yesterday when I shared the boyish versions.  Yes, this is a little bit of a cheat, but I just wanted to show you how creative you can be!  It's a fun & easy dress-up costume for the little girl on your list, but that long fleece braid can be used as a scarf when it's cold outside, too.  I'll be sharing the step-by-step tutorial for how I made this hoodie later this week, but you get how a little creativity can go a long way, right?!  We clipped a few yo-yo hair clips down the braid to look like flowers and add a little extra giftiness.

4.  Fiskars Rotary Craft Drill.  $15

Why I love it?  It's a drill that is hand powered.  I can think of so many uses for this!  For instance, little craft projects where it's just a pain to dig out the big drill, or when the big drill is just too powerful for what you need to do, or when the kids want to drill something.  That always makes me worry.  This seems like a fun addition to your crafting arsenal.

5.  Statement Necklaces.  $5 - $15

Why I love them?  You can buy them inexpensively on deal-of-the-day websites like Groop Dealz or Jane in all shapes, sizes and colors, or you can buy some funky beads and ribbon and make your own {without any jewelry making experience}.  They add that perfect "oomph" to any old outfit and you instantly look more stylish and dressed up.  Tutorial for that top necklace is coming up on the blog soon.

6.  Magazine Subscriptions.  $5 - $20

Why I love them?  It's the gift that keeps on giving all year long.  This time of year you can usually find pretty great deals on subscriptions, too.  I mean, $5 for Better Homes & Gardens?!  Yes, please.  {This is the gift I give myself every year.  Ssshhhh.  Don't tell, OK?}  I usually end up getting one or two for my daughter as well.  This is the kind of thing we wouldn't spend money on at any other time, but I'm always so glad when new issues up in my mail box.

7.  Maxi skirts.  About $10.

Why I love them?  They're just like yoga pants, but you can wear them to church!!  I wear maxi skirts at least 3 days a week because you just can't beat the comfort factor.  You wouldn't believe how easy they are to make yourself.  This tutorial at Mad Mim is fabulous for showing you the ropes.  I just taught a maxi skirt sewing class at a craft day about a month ago where 10 ladies each sewed a skirt, mostly without help from me, in less than an hour.  I need one in every color!

8.  Penguin Classics.  $15 - $18 each.

Why I love them?  Classic literature and super pretty book covers are two things that I could eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  How beautiful would those books look sitting on a shelf in . . . anywhere?!  I may not be able to get the whole set this year, but the hubs could start a fun new tradition by buying one or two . . . maybe . . .

9.  Infinity Scarves.  Varies

Why I love them?  I love to wear scarves, but I'm never sure if I have tied them right.  I mean, I know there are literally thousands of ways to tie them so nothing is really "wrong", but I find myself asking my husband and daughter, "Do I look like a dork in this,"  a lot when I wear them.  These infinity scarves are a no brainer -- wrap it twice around your neck and you're effortlessly chic.  I am especially loving these Infinity Pashminas at World Market for just $10.  So soft and cozy!

10.  Diamond Candles.  $25

Why I love them?  It's a pretty smelling candle AND a sparkly ring for the price of one.  The element of surprise adds to the value.  Will you get one of the really valuable rings?  I don't know . . . Ahhhhhhhhh! Read all about my Diamond Candle experience here.  I have always said that candles are cop-out gifts, but now I am singing a different tune.  I know many a young lady who would be thrilled to receive one of these this year!

Those are a few of my favorite ideas.  Did I miss anything fantastic?  I'd love to know what you're shopping for this Christmas.
