Hello, friends! I am so excited today to share an awesome organization with y'all. My sister-in-law, Daina, has been involved with African Promise Foundation for several years and I think it's the coolest thing. I'll let her explain what it's all about:
At African Promise Foundation we run completely on volunteers, none of the board members get paid. This way, we can keep our expenses at a minimum so we can give back the maximum possible. APF purchases jewelry made from women in Uganda, most of which are HIV+. This money helps them support their families and pay for needed medical treatments. The jewelry is made from 100% recycled papers and you have to see them to truly appreciate them - they are stunning! The jewelry is brought back to the U.S. and sold at a profit. The proceeds are then returned to Ugandan communities in the form of orphan care and education sponsorship.
APF is currently supporting 32 students through school this year. Many of our students are orphans, so we pay quite a bit each year to have them in boarding school so they can get their basic needs taken care of as well as their education. If you know about Uganda's devastating history, then you know this war-torn country has so many needs. We are so appreciative of any support we receive. Little by little we are helping to create a brighter future for the Ugandan people. Shopping with APF, you are not just buying jewelry, you are changing lives! The perfect gift to give is a GIFT THAT GIVES BACK.How cool is that?! Daina is an amazing photographer and I love to see the beautiful pictures she brings back from her trips to Uganda. It's truly an amazing cause and gorgeous jewelry. She's right when she says you have to see these pieces in person to really appreciate their beauty. I mean, the pictures are gorgeous, but when your jewelry arrives you will be blown away. Just look at a few of my favorites -- and keep in mind, these beads are made from PAPER, folks.
Unbelievable. I would wear that yellow multi-strand bracelet every single day of my life.{Ahem, Brent -- our anniversary is tomorrow and Mother's Day is next weekend . . . hint, hint.} Speaking of which . . . Mother's Day is NEXT WEEKEND! If you are looking for an amazing {affordable!} gift for the special women in your life, please check out African Promise Foundation's selection of jewelry and gifts. I can't imagine any woman who wouldn't love to receive one of these necklaces or bracelets, especially knowing the back story. Gifts that give back -- talk about a win-win!
