If you're joining us for the first
time today, welcome! This is day 16 of a 31-day series about how to give a room in
your home a brand new look, from top to bottom, completely DIY.
You'll find links to all the other posts in the series here, if you're interested.
This picture I found from HGTV.com was part of the inspiration for this room makeover:
Love, love, love that pink side table with the navy blue walls and white trim. Love it! I also like the idea of cutting a table in half like that so I set out to find a table we could do that to. No such luck, but I did find this winner at Hobby Lobby:
It had a great shape and pretty sparkly knobs. I didn't love the cityscape on the front, and you know I didn't pay $140 for it. Are you ready for this?! It cost me . . . . . . . . . .
$14!!!!!!!!!
Yep, 90% off. Sold! I brought it home prepped it for paint by removing the knobs and lightly sanding the glossy surface so the paint would stick better. I also primed it with a spray primer so that the finish coat would really stick. Finally it got a couple coats of magenta gloss spray paint { Valspar's Frosty Berry}, and now it looks like a brand new table.
It ended up being more of a bubblegum pink than a raspberry pink, but I still love it. It's the perfect funky pop of color that we needed on this side of the room. No, that is not a rock on my daughter's side table. I mean, it IS, but it's a piece of the new Gilbert LDS temple that is being built so it's a special rock. My youngest son is the one who collects random plain rocks, not Sis. Anyway, I'm looking for a basket that will fit underneath the table to hold her library books and magazines. I'm sure there's a perfect basket out there somewhere.
What do you think of the room so far? It's really coming together. I can't wait to show you some of the art we've made for the space tomorrow! Have a great day, friends.
