People Make the Coolest Things!

Sooooo . . . I have a new semi-obsession. It's Etsy -- a website where people can buy and sell handmade crafts and stuff. I'm not even sure how I found it. It may have been when I was searching for vinyl lettering for one of my mural clients. It doesn't matter. I could spend hours there. I have found everything from the fabric of my dreams (I know, I know. Enough about the fabric.) to a skull and crossbones vinyl decal that says "Keep Out" (for my boys' bedroom door) to targets that you put in the bottom of your toilet bowl (hello, two sons here . . .) to an Alice in Wonderland charm necklace to give my super star daughter on opening night (shhhhhh!) to cute, cute accessories that I covet for myself. The best part? Lots of the things (that I love, anyway) cost less than twenty dollars. And, AND, I have gotten so many great ideas for things I want to make myself. Hello, a monogram formed out of vintage buttons on a toss pillow?! Who'd 'a thunk it? It's fabulous and I am sooo loving the monograms lately. Anyway, I'm so enamored I could go on all night. here's a sampling of my faves:
OK, so that last one is just plain icky, but it gave me a much needed chuckle this afternoon. You should check Etsy out for yourself!

  1. I love Etsy too! That bird necklace is so cute! Was that under 20 bucks as well? Don't I have a birthday coming up that Jeff could buy that for me? Oh, wait, I just had my birthday. Rats! Here's another angle: Wouldn't that be a nice gift to find on my pillow when I go to visit a certain family (hopefully) over Spring break? A necklace instead of a mint. That would be so divine. ;D

  2. I can't believe that you blogged about Etsy! Just yesterday (while I was home sick) I passed my time searching, aka shopping, Etsy. I found DIY kits for necklaces just like that bird one... I was thinking "self, you should buy some of these and get together with the girls and everyone can make necklaces!" I the whole kit has enough supplies to make 6 necklaces and it was only $14 - and it was homemade glass! AWESOME

  3. The bird necklace is only $5.50 (buy 2 get 1 free!!) for the charm and then $5 for the chain. I am keeping a list of favorites on the site and conveniently leaving my logon info where Brent can see it daily. I'd rather have some of this than flowers. Tammy -- I LOVE it! We should totally do that. More fun than painting sheep.

  5. Hey Amy! I too am an Etsy junky. I actually make necklaces exactly like the one you have pictured. I can do it for FREE! Yes, you read it right, FREE! (for you that is and other family members. Call it a birthday gift?) I sell them at a local boutique here and do custom orders. Let me know.
